Sandy Brawl Stars Guide: Best Build, Modes & Teammates

Sandy turns a normal lane fight into a visibility problem for the enemy. His sandstorm gives teammates room to reposition, heal, and begin attacks from uncertain angles.

Quick Verdict

Pick Sandy if you enjoy mid-range control and team utility. He is especially useful for coordinated players who can place a sandstorm over the objective and time a push while the enemy lacks clear information.

Story and Personality

Officially, Sandy is a sleepy sand-controlling Brawler whose attacks pierce through enemies. His Super creates a large sandstorm that conceals allied Brawlers inside it.

Fan theory: Fans sometimes connect Sandy’s constant drowsiness to the effort of controlling dreams or magical sand. The sleepy personality is official; deeper explanations for it remain fan interpretation.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Piercing attacks pressure grouped opponents and defend narrow approaches.
  • The sandstorm controls a large objective area without requiring direct damage.
  • Fast attack delivery makes Sandy dependable at finishing weakened enemies.

Weaknesses

  • Limited range makes open sniper maps uncomfortable.
  • Damage and reload pressure can fall short against high-health aggression.
  • A poorly placed sandstorm may hide nobody or reveal the team’s intended route.

Best Modes and Maps

Sandy is strongest in Gem Grab, Hot Zone, and Brawl Ball. Choose maps with a contested centre, overlapping lanes, and walls near the objective—Double Swoosh-style bush control or compact Hot Zone layouts are natural fits. Avoid maps where long-range Brawlers can shoot across the full arena.

Best Build

For general use, equip Sweet Dreams, Rude Sands, Exhausting Storm, and Gadget Cooldown. Sweet Dreams gives Sandy a dependable interrupt, while Rude Sands denies healing and reveals enemies throughout the sandstorm. On brush-heavy maps, replace Gadget Cooldown with Speed; if the team needs sustain more than area denial, swap Rude Sands for Healing Winds.

Gear 1 — Exhausting Storm

Enemies inside Sandy’s sandstorm deal 20% less damage.

Why it works: The reduction protects every teammate fighting in the storm and makes an objective push much harder to stop.

Gear 2 — Gadget Cooldown

Reduce Gadget cooldown by 15%.

Why it works: An extra timely Sweet Dreams activation can interrupt an assassin, stop a scoring attempt, or set up a decisive elimination.

Situational alternatives: Use Speed on brush-heavy maps, Damage when Sandy needs more finishing power, or Shield when surviving burst damage matters most.

Build Options: Gadgets, Star Powers & Hypercharge

Gadget — Sleep Stimulator

Sandy falls asleep and fully restores his Health, but cannot move or attack while sleeping.

When to use it: This is a niche choice for modes with enough downtime to recover safely. Activate it behind solid cover only after confirming that an enemy cannot reach or interrupt Sandy during the sleep.

Gadget — Sweet Dreams

Sandy’s next main attack puts enemies to sleep briefly. Taking damage wakes them immediately.

When to use it: Choose Sweet Dreams for most team modes. Use it to interrupt an approaching assassin, stop an objective play, or give teammates a clear moment to focus one target; avoid waking the enemy with weak damage before the team is ready.

Star Power — Rude Sands

Sandy’s sandstorm periodically damages enemies inside it.

When to use it: This is the general control choice. Its damage prevents natural healing, checks bushes, reveals enemy positions, and makes it costly for opponents to remain on an objective.

Star Power — Healing Winds

Sandy’s sandstorm periodically restores Health to friendly Brawlers inside it.

When to use it: Pick Healing Winds when your composition wins through a sustained grouped push and already has enough damage or scouting. Spread out within the storm so the enemy cannot punish the team with one area attack.

Hypercharge — Swift Winds

Sandy and his allies gain 20% increased movement speed while inside the Hypercharged sandstorm.

When to use it: Activate it just before a coordinated objective push or defence. Place the storm across the route your team needs so allies can enter, change angles, and chase weakened targets while remaining concealed.

Best Teammates

Max moves the group into position before the sandstorm and lets Sandy keep enemies within attack range. Gene chips targets from safety and can pull an opponent into the area Sandy’s team already controls.

Counters and Common Mistakes

Long-range damage, wall breakers, and enemies who reveal hidden targets can reduce the storm’s value. Do not throw the Super behind the fight, waste Sweet Dreams on an enemy who is already being hit, or stand in a tight group that gives area damage free value.
