Byron rewards players who want to heal teammates or snipe with poison. This guide covers the general build, favourable modes, draft partners, counters, and the decisions that make the kit work.
Quick Verdict
Choose Byron when your composition can support its main win condition: heal teammates or snipe with poison. Patient positioning and coordinated pressure matter more than chasing every elimination.
Story and Personality
Official description: Byron has invented many concoctions and tinctures that heal or harm in various ways…. but most of them fall into the harming category
Fan theory: Community interpretations may connect this character to wider Starr Park stories, but any detail beyond the official description above remains unconfirmed.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- The kit is designed to heal teammates or snipe with poison.
- Can create a clear advantage when teammates act on the same opening.
- Flexible enough to contribute through positioning even when an immediate elimination is unavailable.
Weaknesses
- Loses value when forced into unfavourable range or terrain.
- Poor ammo discipline can leave the Brawler unable to answer a dive.
- Uncoordinated teammates may fail to convert the space or utility the kit creates.
Best Modes and Maps
Byron is most comfortable in objective modes where positioning and repeatable team fights matter, including Gem Grab, Brawl Ball, Hot Zone, Knockout, or Bounty depending on the current rotation. Prioritise maps that support the kit’s preferred range and give safe cover without blocking its main pressure tool.
Best Build
For most matches, equip Booster Shots, Malaise, Shield, and Damage. This setup gives Byron a burst answer to divers, strong anti-healing for decisive fights, and enough survivability to hold a long sightline. Swap Malaise for Injection on passive maps where allies often block your darts; swap Damage for Gadget Cooldown when repeated Booster Shots matters more than low-health pressure.

Gear 1 — Shield
Gain 900 extra Health as a consumable shield. The shield regenerates in 10 seconds while at full Health.
Why it works: Byron is fragile. Shield helps him survive a sniper exchange or the opening hit of a dive long enough to retreat, use a Gadget, or land a defensive Super.
Gear 2 — Damage
Deal 15% extra damage while Byron is below 50% Health.
Why it works: The bonus improves Byron’s pressure when he is forced into a close trade. It should support safe positioning, not encourage staying exposed at low Health.
Situational Gear alternatives: Use Gadget Cooldown to reduce Booster Shots’ cooldown by 15% in aggressive or tank-heavy matchups. Speed and Vision remain useful map-specific choices on brush-heavy layouts.
Build Options: Gadgets, Star Powers & Hypercharge
Use this section to adjust Byron’s kit for the map, enemy draft, and the job your team needs him to do. Booster Shots and Malaise are the normal starting point, but the alternatives have clear uses.
Gadget — Booster Shots
Byron’s next attack fires three darts instead of one. Each dart deals 20% less damage and 40% less healing than a normal dart. Cooldown: 18 seconds.
When to use it: This is the default. Use it at close range to burst down a diver or tank, or to deliver a fast rescue heal to a nearby teammate. Avoid spending it on a distant target where the darts will spread too far apart.
Gadget — Shot In The Arm
Byron uses one ammo to heal himself for 1,300 Health per second for 3 seconds. Cooldown: 17 seconds.
When to use it: Choose it on open maps or into long-range pressure when staying alive is more valuable than a close-range burst. It is also useful when Byron must hold a lane with little protection from teammates.
Star Power — Malaise
Enemies hit by Byron’s Super receive 75% less healing from every source for 9 seconds.
When to use it: This is the default into healers, self-healing tanks, and teams that rely on recovering between trades. Land the Super when your team can immediately pressure the affected enemy; the healing reduction is most valuable while they are forced to fight.
Star Power — Injection
Every 3.5 seconds, Byron’s next basic attack pierces through targets.
When to use it: Pick Injection on passive maps and narrow lanes where allies commonly block your darts. The piercing shot can heal a teammate while tagging an enemy behind them, or heal two grouped allies during a controlled fight.
Hypercharge — Unstable Concoction
Byron’s Hypercharged Super also fires his main attack in every direction from its point of impact.
When to use it: Activate it for a contested objective or a grouped team fight, ideally when the Super can heal an ally and damage enemies at the same time. Do not use it only to finish one isolated enemy unless that elimination decides the round.
Best Teammates
Byron is strongest beside a teammate who can turn his long-range healing into sustained pressure. After comparing the current roster, recent competitive discussion, current pairing data, role coverage, and the way each kit interacts with Byron’s darts and Super, these four partners have the clearest case.
- Bull — Byron can pre-heal Bull before a charge and keep him active after he reaches close range. Bull supplies the immediate burst and frontline threat Byron lacks, while Malaise helps stop enemy healing from undoing Bull’s damage.
- Bibi — Bibi’s speed and knockback let her take space and peel divers away from Byron. His healing helps her survive while maintaining pressure, and Booster Shots plus Super can stabilize her when she commits around walls.
- Bonnie — Bonnie can absorb pressure in cannon form, then dive to finish a weakened target. Byron keeps her healthy before the jump and can land an area Super where she arrives; recent adjusted pairing data also places Bonnie among Byron’s strongest partners rather than merely among the strongest Brawlers overall.
- 8-Bit — 8-Bit’s high health gives Byron an efficient healing target, while the Damage Booster increases Byron’s damage and therefore the value of his attack healing. Together they can hold a long sightline, but they need a map and third teammate that can protect them from coordinated dives.
Teammate guide cards will appear here when the selected guides are published.
Research basis: Recent competitive discussion specifically supports Byron as a tank enabler and highlights Bull and Bibi, while current adjusted teammate data supports Bonnie. The 8-Bit recommendation is based on the direct Damage Booster interaction and long-range control, with the dive weakness stated above. Counters and Common Mistakes
Opponents that outrange Byron, close distance safely, or deny its main ability can force awkward fights. Avoid wasting all ammo on low-percentage shots, entering without an exit route, and using a Super before teammates are ready to follow.
