EMPULSE is the movement shooter that Titanfall fans have been waiting years for — a fast, vertical, 6v6 FPS where wall-running, grapple hooks, and pilotable mechs are the heart of every fight. Built by 1047 Games, the studio behind the original Splitgate, EMPULSE lands in Early Access right now on PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X/S with no battle pass, no store, and no microtransactions at launch.

The Story / Concept
Set in Freehold — a reclaimed district carved from the bones of a megacity — EMPULSE drops you into the streets as a mercenary-for-hire battling rival Crews for territory and dominance. The world is built vertically: narrow alleys stack into rooftops, which open into multi-level arenas where every wall is a runway. The post-utopian aesthetic is gritty and neon-soaked, but the core fantasy is pure freedom of movement. Every building, ledge, and surface is an invitation to move faster than the players trying to kill you.
Core Gameplay Features
1. A Full Movement Toolkit
Movement is not a feature bolted onto EMPULSE — it is the entire foundation. Players can:
- Wall-run forwards and backwards across virtually every vertical surface
- Swing with a grapple hook to build momentum, close gaps, or reel enemies in for a melee hit
- Launch off Holojumps and jetpacks to keep aerial chains alive
- Toss P.A.I.N.T. Bombs — Speed, Jump, Explosive, Heal, and Sticky variants — to reshape surfaces mid-match and gain tactical advantage
Chain all of these together and the game clicks into a flowstate that is genuinely unlike any other shooter on the market right now.
2. Mechs as Contested Objectives
Two mechs spawn at the center of every map mid-round, and both teams fight to claim them. A pilot is equipped with a ramp-up chaingun, a charge jump that slams down with a shockwave, and a dash for repositioning. Mechs are powerful, but they are not invincible — a coordinated squad can bring one down with well-timed melee rushes or P.A.I.N.T. plays, instantly swinging match momentum. The push-and-pull over mech control is the heartbeat of EMPULSE matches.
3. Early Access Launch Content
EMPULSE ships into Early Access with a strong foundation:
- Multiple maps and competitive modes, including a 4v4 Ranked playlist
- Mech Bounty mode — a VIP-style format where eliminating the enemy mech earns your team 5 points per kill
- Weapon progression, Daily Gigs, Mastery Gigs, and a cosmetics system entirely driven by in-game play — no purchases required
- Full cross-platform multiplayer between PC and Xbox from day one
- 34 Steam achievements and support for 16 languages
Who Is This For?
EMPULSE is squarely aimed at players who burned hundreds of hours on Titanfall 2 and have been looking for a worthy successor ever since. If you love the idea of a shooter where mechanical skill and movement mastery matter more than positioning and cover play, this is built for you. The 6v6 format keeps matches tight enough that individual movement decisions carry real weight — a single well-chained sequence can flip a round. The no-microtransaction launch is also a bold statement worth rewarding: everything cosmetic is earned by playing, not by opening a wallet. With 1047 Games committing to a community-driven 9-to-12 month Early Access roadmap, this is a good time to get in on the ground floor.
Pro Tip
Don’t ignore the grapple hook’s melee potential. Hooking an enemy enemy pulls you directly into melee range and temporarily disables a mech pilot’s bubble shield — it is the single fastest way to crack open a mech for your squad. In regular 6v6, grapple-into-melee is also your best tool for deleting someone who thinks a wall gives them safety. Chain it into a wall-run immediately after for a clean escape.
