The Story / Concept
In the pitch-black waters beyond the long-abandoned fishing town of Silkwirm-on-Sea, Captain Magnus Mortuga has been found dead inside a locked room aboard his own submarine, with only an ancient stone cauldron nearby to hint at what happened. Was he an immortal time-traveller? A cursed vampire? Summoned by the mysterious Captain Seafoam, Grimoire and Sally have to sort fact from local legend to crack the case.
Core Gameplay Features
Fully 3D clue examination — The series’ biggest mechanical upgrade yet.
- Pick up, rotate, and inspect physical objects instead of flat 2D images
- Some clues can be opened, shaken, or toggled to reveal hidden details
A fully voiced, eccentric cast — The submarine’s crew is as suspicious as they are memorable.
- Grimoire and Sally return alongside a full voice cast of suspects
- An original score performed by the Budapest Art Orchestra
Hand-painted exploration — Every inch of the Mortuga Submarine is deliberately unsettling.
- Explore hand-painted rooms where nothing is quite what it seems
- Layered puzzle-solving in the tradition of Tangle Tower and Crow Country
Who Is This For?
Fans of narrative-driven mystery games — especially anyone who played Tangle Tower or Crow Country — will want this one immediately. It’s also a solid pick for newcomers to the Detective Grimoire series, since each entry stands on its own case.
Pro Tip
Take your time with the 3D clues — rotating an object to find an inscription on its underside is often the difference between a stalled conversation and a breakthrough. If you’re playing on PS5 or Switch, the controller triggers handle the rotation, though mouse control on PC remains a touch more precise.
