The Story / Concept
Here’s the science: eventually, every living organism on Earth evolves into a crab. It’s called carcinisation, and it’s a real thing. Everything is Crab: The Animal Evolution Roguelite dares you to defy biology itself. Set in a living, breathing ecosystem with day/night cycles and four distinct biomes, you evolve your creature one run at a time — picking from 125+ evolutions to become whatever bizarre chimera you can dream up. Spore meets Vampire Survivors, with a healthy splash of “what if science was wrong and I had legs everywhere?” The game crossed 100,000 sales in its first 48 hours for a reason.
Core Gameplay Features
- 125+ Evolutionary Abilities — Build a different creature every run.
- Legs, claws, pincers, wings, fur, tails, scales, tentacles — mix and match
- Strategy-defining evolutions that change your playstyle entirely
- Become a predator, trickster, leader, nomad — or pure abomination
- A Living Ecosystem — The world reacts to you, not the other way around.
- Multiple creature species with their own goals and AI
- Four distinct biomes with unique flora, fauna, and climate events
- Day/night cycles that change which threats come out
- Massive Meta-Progression — Every death teaches you something.
- Difficulty system for veteran roguelite players
- Combine Genetics (starting characters) for over 200 unique starting builds
- Challenge scenarios like Ice Age, Always Night, and Hunted
Who Is This For?
If you loved evolving creatures in Spore, the build-crafting of Vampire Survivors, or any roguelite with deep meta-progression, this is your dream game. PC Gamer called it “the most interesting roguelike of 2026”, and the launch numbers back it up. Bonus: the developers proudly note no generative AI was used in making the game — every pixel of that bizarre cow-with-apples-on-its-bottom is handcrafted.
Pro Tip
Don’t try to “win” early runs — focus on unlocking new evolutions and learning how the ecosystem behaves. Once you know what predators come out at night in each biome, you can plan a build around the threats you’ll actually face. Adapt, don’t brute force.
